Week 3 and 4 - The Parents Point - of - View
What to tell you about Boris? Free to a good home seems to be the appropriate phrase based on the last 2 weeks, although I think we will persevere a bit longer :)
House training continues with mixed success, although we have reached a break even point for good days versus bad. Boris has learned to wait for his supper, which is a great first lesson. Instead of lunging madly for the bowl, he can now be made to sit while the food goes in the dish, until he gets the "ok" to eat. We were learning "come" pretty well for a while too, but a bit of defiance has set in over the past few days, and training on that one still underway.
And how about that chewing? Would you like a table leg with that chair? Chew, Chew, Chew. Don't turn your head for even a second, or something will have a bite out of it.
In the cuteness department, development is incredible. The big eyes are getting bigger, and he is starting to develop little tufts of hair, the long coat starting to show.
Boris was 4.25 pounds at his first vet visit, and last week was 5.75 - he is getting longer and his nose is starting to fill out. The tail is still short, but the dark highlights seem to be getting darker. Some pictures to follow shortly.
Walking on a lead seems to be second nature, and he loves to go for walks.
Boris gets along well with the neighborhood dogs, Candy and Ruby from across the street, and he LOVES to play with his cousin Goliath.
This week, we hope to have him all day without a mistake while we are at work, and soon will be able to start letting him out in the back yard. That should be fun!

Week Two - Boot Camp
1. Eat all of your food at one sitting. If I eat a bit and go away, it disappears, so I am learning to eat it all at once.
2. Come when I am called. This is hard because there is still so much to see and do (there are actually several rooms in my new house that I am still discovering).
3. "Gold Star" Days. These are days when I make it all day without making any mistakes in the house. So far I have had two. I almost got to four, but there is so much excitement on the weekend that I can hardly control myself.
4. I can bark, but barking does not always get me the kind of attention that I want.
5.There is a lot of fun stuff under the snow that I can eat, but this is against the rules.
6. If I behave, I can go wherever I want.
Next week I have to learn something called "walking on a leash". I am not sure what that means, but I think I will get to go outside to do it. That will be fun.
All this is why I am so tired, but weekends are good for catching up on sleep.

My First Week
It has been a very busy week in my new home, but I am settling in very well. I like it here a lot, but there are LOTS of rules. If I have to go to the bathroom, I have to ask to go outside; sometimes I forget, and sometimes my people don't know that I need to go and I can't wait, but I am getting better. There are lots of fun things to chew, but I am not supposed to chew them, which I think is unfair - after all, this is my house now.
On Wednesday I went to visit my cousin Goliath at my grandparents house. Golly is a big dog, and he likes to play with me. I had fun there. On Thursday I met Dr. Julia and her people at the veterinary office. I was really scared at first, but everyone was really nice to me. I had my ears washed because I had some mites in them - that is why they were itchy - but I have some drops now, and they are getting better which makes me a happy dog.
During the day I live in my little house, and I have never made a mess there. The nice lady from across the street comes at lunch to let me out, and I get to play outside for a while then.
I really really like it outside. I love the snow and the leaves and the dirt and the twigs and the grass and the ice and the squirrels and the birds and the muck and the puddles and the bark and the trees and the mulch and the vines. There is just SO MUCH to see and do.
By the time I am ready to go to bed, I am very tired. I go in my little house, and I feel very secure there so I hardly cry at all, and then I go to sleep and sleep all night long. Then it is up for another day in my busy new home.

Second Day

First Day
Well, I spent my first night in my new home last night. I have a little crate to sleep in with a blanket. It is small and there is only enough room for me to turn around and lie down. I had to pee in the night, but I did not want to mess my bed, so I tried and tried to hold it and I made it until morning, when I went right away.
I cried a little bit when I first went to bed, but then I got so tired that I just went to sleep. I slept all night without waking up, and it was very quiet in the house, not like in the kennel.
After I went out to pee, I had breakfast all to myself. Now I am a little tired again, and am having a nap. I have lots of toys and personal stuff. I miss my 7 brothers and sisters, but I think I will like not having to fight for food and attention.
